Office 365 Integration Service reports do not run after you install Update Rollup 1 for Windows Server 2012 Essentials

Symptoms
Assume that you have the Microsoft Office 365 Integration feature enabled. After you install Update Rollup 1 for Windows Server 2012 Essentials (KB2781267) and then restart the server, Office 365 Integration Service reports do not run. Additionally, you may receive the following health alert when you open the dashboard:

One or more services are not running.

The following important Windows services are not running. Windows Server Office 365 Integration Service (O365ProviderSvc) Note: Services can be stopped when software updates are applied.
Cause
In Update Rollup 1 for Windows Server 2012 Essentials, a new Password Synchronization Service component is introduced so that Windows Server 2012 Essentials works better with the Office 365 integration model and the hosted email framework. The new Password Synchronization Service component is deployed as a service on the server, and, by default, its initial status is set to Disabled. When you then enable the Office 365 model or your hosted email plug-in, the Password Synchronization Service is automatically turned on. Therefore, if you enabled the Office 365 model before you installed Update Rollup1, you have to manually turn on the Password Synchronization Service.
Resolution
To fix this problem, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you prefer to fix this problem yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

To fix this problem, click the Fix it button or link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

Let me fix it myself

Method 1

By using administrative credentails, run the following Windows PowerShell script on the server, and then restart the dashboard:
Set-Service -Name PwdSyncProviderSvc -StartupType Automatic
Set-Service -Name PwdSyncProviderSvc -Status Running
Set-Service -Name O365ProviderSvc -Status Running

Method 2

  1. Under Administrative Tools, open the Services console.
  2. Find the service that is named Windows Server Password Synchronization Service.

  3. Click the service, and then, on the General tab of the Windows Server Password Synchronization Service Properties dialog box, change Startup type to Automatic.


  4. Start the Windows Server Password Synchronization Service.
  5. Start the Windows Server Office 365 Integration Service.
  6. Restart the dashboard.
