When you upgrade to Windows XP from Windows 2000, Device Manager shows the Windows Sound System Compatible (WDM) driver as having a problem. When you view the device properties, the following description appears:
Code 28 (The drivers for this device are not installed).
This behavior occurs because Windows Sound System Compatible (WDM) drivers are deleted during the upgrade to Windows XP.
This is by design. With the current drivers, this device is not compatible with Windows XP.
