When you try to start the Mail Merge Wizard in Microsoft Word, nothing happens. When you try again, the wizard starts as expected.
This problem occurs when Word generates a valid run-time error while you attempt to run Visual Basic code. When you then try to open the Mail Merge Wizard, the wizard does not open on the first try.
To work around this problem, try to open the Mail Merge Wizard again.

Note The following methods assume that you have already tried to open the Mail Merge Wizard.

In Microsoft Office Word 2003 and in earlier versions of Word, point to Letters and Mailings on the Tools menu, and then click Mail Merge Wizard again.

In Microsoft Office Word 2007, click Start Mail Merge in the Start Mail Merge group on the Mailings tab, and then click Step by Step Mail Merge Wizard again.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
For more information about how to use the Mail Merge Wizard, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type About mail merge for form letters and mass mailings in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
