How to remove or replace Folder Size button in folder properties

When you view the properties of a folder in Microsoft Outlook, you canget an approximate size of the folder in kilobytes (KB). By default, the Folder Size button is on the General tab of the folder properties. In some instances, you may want to remove the Folder Size button, or it may already be missing.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
To remove or to replace the Folder Size button, exit Outlook, start the Registry Editor, and then locate the following key in the registry, as appropriate for the version of Outlook that you are running:
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007:
  • Microsoft Outlook 2002:
Add a new DWORD value. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Outlook folder.
  2. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  3. Type ChkFldrSize, and then press ENTER.
  4. Click the ChkFldrSize icon in the right pane.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  6. Click Hexadecimal, and then type either a 0 in the Value Data box to disable the Folder Size button, or type a 1 to enable the Folder Size button.
  7. Click OK, and then click Exit on the Registry menu.
Note This feature does not work with Microsoft Outlook 97.
