Symptoms

When a user performs a search function on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, no results are returned. Additionally, Event ID 1010 is logged in the server's event log.

Note The search may be completed in Outlook Web App or in Outlook's Work Online mode.

Cause

This problem occurs because the FAST folder structure on the Exchange server is corrupted. This problem is also indicated when the passive copies of the database are listed as Failed for some time.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Install Cumulative Update 7 for Exchange Server 2013.

Method 2

  1. Stop the following services:

    • Microsoft Exchange Search

    • Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller

  2. Start Windows PowerShell as an administrator.

  3. Remove all four directories that are located under the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\HostController\Data\Nodes\Fsis

  4. In Windows PowerShell, locate the following directory:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Installer

  5. Run the following command:

    installconfig.ps1 -action I -datafolder "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\HostController\Data"

  6. Restart the following services:

    • Microsoft Exchange Search

    • Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
