A local print server is pruned from domain controllers in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012

Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
  • You have domain controllers that are running Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 in multiple sites.
  • You have the Print Spooler service enabled on the domain controllers.
  • You have the following policy enabled:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Printers\Allow pruning of published printers
Note This policy is enabled by default.
  • You have a local site print server.
  • Communication between the local print server and the remote domain controllers has not been enabled in Windows Firewall.
In this scenario, the local print server is mistakenly pruned from the domain controllers.
