Error 8e5e0530 when installing Windows Store apps in a Windows 8.1 system that was deployed by using the CopyProfile unattend setting

Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
  • You log on to a computer that is running Windows 8.1.
  • Before the "Host Process for Setting Synchronization" (SettingSyncHost.exe) process closes its database, you generalize the system by running the following command:
    Sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:CopyProfileUnattend.xml
    For example, the CopyProfileUnattend.xml file contains the following code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend"> <settings pass="specialize"> <component name="component name processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="PublicKeyToken"language="neutral" versionScope="versionScope" xmlns:wcm=""> <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile> </component> </settings> </unattend>language="neutral" versionScope="xmlns:wcm" xmlns:xsi="xmlns:xsi"> <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile> </component> </settings> </unattend>language="neutral" versionScope="versionScope"xmlns:wcm="xmlns:wcm" xmlns:xsi="xmlns:xsi"> <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile> </component> </settings> </unattend>
  • A user logs on to the computer.
  • The user tries to install an app from Windows Store.

In this scenario, the app installation fails, and error 8e5e0530 occurs. Additionally, lots of errors are generated in the Application log, such as "C:\Users\Administrator\... while the account doesn't exist."
