Symptoms

You encounter a memory leak on a network file system (NFS) share server that is running Windows Server 2008.

Cause

This problem occurs when the lifetime of the delta queue elements is changed incorrectly to an arbitrary large value. This causes the cache entries to be retained for a long time.

Note The delta queue in NFS is used to track the cache entries that are no longer being used and that can be cleaned up based on their time-outs.

Resolution

  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008" section. MUM files and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
