BUG #: 234652 (SHILOH_BUGS)
When a database name contains a quote character, an attempt to remove log shipping on the secondary database through the Database Properties window may result in the following error:
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000) Error 170: Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 's_db'. Unclosed quotation mark before the character string ''.
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in theMicrosoft Knowledge Base:
290211 INF: How to Obtain the Latest SQL Server 2000 Service Pack
Apply the service pack to the instance of SQL Server that owns the secondary database participating in log shipping.
To work around this problem, remove the secondary database from the log shipping pair; to do this, follow these steps:
In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, open the Management folder and click the Database Maintenance Plans icon.
Double-click the database maintenenace plan that includes log shipping for the database for which you want to remove log shipping.
Click the Log Shipping tab. Select the Destination server from which log shipping needs to be removed, and then click Delete.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
A secondary database can be removed from log shipping setup from the Database Properties window in Enterprise Manager on the secondary database (as described in the "Steps to Reproduce Behavior" section), or from the Log Shipping tab for the database maintenance plan on the primary server (as described in the "Workaround" section).
Steps to Reproduce Behavior
Create a database called "Dave'sDB" on the primary server.
Set up log shipping on Dave'sDB to a secondary server by choosing the database to be in "Standby Mode".
On the secondary server, right-click the database in standby mode and click Database Properties. Click the Log Shipping Details button, and then click the Remove Log Shipping button.
