This article describes an issue when you use a Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a signature algorithmin Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. The issue is resolved in update rollup 2962409, or in hotfix 2961892 that is described in this article and has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a certification authority (CA) that meets Suite B standards (Elliptic Curve Cryptography), and the CA issues the computer certificates for Internet Protocol security (IPsec) authentication by using ECDSA as a signature algorithm.

  • You have Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2-based computers that request an IPSec certificate from the CA.

  • You configure an Internet Key Exchange version 2 (IKEv2) VPN on the client computer.

  • You enable the Allow machine certificate authentication for IKEv2setting on the server.

In this scenario, when you try to connect to the server by using the IKEv2 VPN from the client computer, the connection fails, and you receive the following error message:

Error 13806 - The server does not have a certificate installed that is suitable for use with IKEv2

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2962409, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.
