XCCC: Web Client Connections Through a Front-End Server Do Not Work for 10 Minutes After Failover

SYMPTOMS
If users use a Web client (for example, Microsoft Outlook Web Access [OWA]) to connect to their mailboxes in a front-end and back-end server configuration in which the back-end servers are clustered, when a failover occurs on the cluster, users may not be able to connect to their mailboxes for up to 10 minutes.
CAUSE
This problem can occur because the front-end servers cache the status of the back-end servers for 10 minutes.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
After you install this fix, the front-end servers do not cache the status of the back-end servers, and users should be able to access their mailboxes immediately after a failover, or after the information store is running again.
