After you undock your laptop computer from a docking station, log off, and then log on to the computer again, you may receive the following error message on a blue screen:
An error has occurred. To continue:
Press Enter to return to Windows, or Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications.
Error: 0E : 0028 : F000E739
Press any key to continue
This problem occurs only if the docking station is equipped with an IEEE 1394 (High-Performance Serial Bus, or "FireWire") device.
Windows Millennium Edition (Me) implements Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) support for IEEE 1394 devices. When you undock the computer, these devices are not deregistered from WMI. During the logon process, Wmiexe enumerates all of the registered components. Enumeration of a device that is no longer present causes the invalid page fault (0E) error message.
To work around this issue, shut down and restart the computer after undocking it if you want to log off and then log on to the computer again.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
