Symptoms

Assume that you enable the AutoClose option for your database in Microsoft SQL Server 2014. When the database is shutting down, an access violation error may occur on the I/O Completion routine and a memory dump file is generated. After the exception occurs, one of the several log shipping secondary databases stops being able to do further restores. The database that is affected is not always the same.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a race condition between the Log Writer thread and another thread that is closing the database.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, obtain Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2014.
