Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Q: Should I expect any functionality updates on the Yammer app or the Yammer Web Part before they're discontinued?
A: No. We won't introduce new functionality or improvements during their respective support periods. However, we'll address security issues that may occur during the year.

Q: Should I expect functionality changes when I move from the Yammer app to Yammer Embed in SharePoint Server 2013 or SharePoint Online?
A: The functionality changes are minimal. The main difference is in the way Yammer Embed is added to a site. Read the step-by-step guide to move from the Yammer app to Yammer Embed.

Q: What are some issues with the Yammer app for SharePoint and the Yammer Web Part for SharePoint Server 2010?
A: The Yammer app for SharePoint requires manual intervention to update each app instance on your SharePoint sites. With Yammer Embed, on the other hand, every instance is up to date without a manual intervention, across all SharePoint sites. This significantly more convenient model decreases support and maintenance costs and helps businesses obtain Yammer Embed innovations as soon as they're released.

The Yammer Web Part for SharePoint Server 2010 uses legacy technology. This includes OAuth version 1.0 and the reliance by SharePoint Server 2010 on Internet Explorer 8 mode to display pages for all browsers. Both types of legacy technology restrict using Yammer Embed on SharePoint Server 2010, aren't supported by Yammer, and limit our ability to innovate and deliver value to customers.

Q: Should we continue deployments of the Yammer app or the Yammer Web Part?
A: We strongly suggest that you not deploy the Yammer app or the Yammer Web Part any longer and that you start using Yammer Embed now.

Q: What browsers are supported in Yammer?
A: For more information, go to https://developer.yammer.com/v1.0/docs/requirements.
