Update enables Premium Storage support for Data files on Azure Storage and resolves backup failures

Improvements and fixes
  • Enables support to store SQL Server database files as Windows Azure Blobs in Azure Premium Storage. This helps prevent the problem in which you receive one of the following error messages when you try to create a database that include files that resides in Microsoft Azure Premium Storage:

    Msg 5123, Level 16, State 10, Line 7
CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 1117(The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.) while attempting to open or create the physical file '<File name>.mdf'.

    Msg 1802, Level 16, State 4, Line 7
CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
  • Resolves the problem in which a read operation fails immediately after a network failure during SQL Server backup, and then SQL Server backup fails.

Note After you apply this update, SQL Server retries the read operation when a network failure occurs.
