The Cluster service on remaining nodes stops unexpectedly when a Windows Server 2012 Failover cluster node experiences a power outage

Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Windows Server 2012 failover cluster.
  • One of the nodes experiences a power outage.
In this scenario, the cluster service on the remaining nodes stops unexpectedly.
Cause
This problem is caused by a race condition that occurs between a change in the state of a cluster resource and the loss of connectivity to another cluster node. This causes the Cluster service to try to reform the cluster by having invalid pointers in its global state. When the service tries to enumerate the contents of this global state on each node, the invalid pointers are dereferenced. This causes the clussvc process on each remaining node to crash.
Resolution
