Stop error D1 when you start front-end services on Skype for Business Server 2015-based servers

This issue occurs in the following scenarios:
  • You deploy Microsoft Lync Server 2013 Enterprise Edition pools that have at least two front-end servers in Windows Server 2012.
  • You deploy a third-party Transport Driver Interface (TDI) filter driver in the Lync Server 2013 environment.
  • You perform an in-place upgrade of Lync Server 2013 to Microsoft Skype for Business Server 2015.
When this issue occurs, the front-end servers' operating system stops unexpectedly, and you receive the following error message on a blue screen:
Stop error D1, {0, 2, 1, fffff88001c72d19}. 
This issue occurs because of a bug in Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
This known issue for Skype for Business Server 2015 is under investigation. This article will be updated when a resolution is available.

This issue also occurs in a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment. To resolve this issue in Windows Server 2012 R2, install the update that is described in stop error 0xD1 occurs when code sets the SIO_FASTPATH_LOOP_BACK flag (KB2957927).

Note You can also install update KB2957927 from Windows Update. However, you must confirm that you are installing the update on Lync Server 2013 servers that are running Windows Server 2012 R2.

We do not recommend that you perform an in-place upgrade to Skype for Business Server 2015 if you deploy third-party Transport Driver Interface (TDI) filter drivers. Please contact support for help in determining whether your environment may encounter this issue. 

How to determine whether a third-party TDI filter driver is loaded

To determine whether a third-party TDI filter driver is loaded, examine the following event that is logged in the System log when you restart servers:

Log Name: System
Source: AFD
Date: Date Time
Event ID: 16001
Task Category: None
Level: Warning
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: Computer FQDN
A TDI filter (\Driver\drivername) was detected. This filter has not been certified by Microsoft and may cause system instability.
