Backup software can't take server backups in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
This article describes an issue that occurs when you use a backup software in Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1). A hotfix is available to fix this issue. The hotfix has a restart requirement.
Assume that you install update 2848443. When you use a backup software to call DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME), the backups fail, and you receive an error message that looks something like this:

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that's described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
