You may receive an error message on a blue screen after you install a Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4400 or 4470 scanner on the parallel port.
Hewlett-Packard 4400-series scanners that do not have a Device ID ROM report an invalid Device ID string (all zeros) when they are queried for a Device ID. The Microsoft-supplied driver cannot validate the string, and a subsequent ID-string-length calculation on a USHORT value causes an underflow.
