XADM: The Catutil.exe Utility Reports Lack of Disk Space If You Move a Catalog During a Master Merge

SYMPTOMS
On Exchange 2000 Server, if you are concerned about limited disk space and you therefore use the Catutil.exe tool to move a catalog to another drive on the same server while the Exchange MS Search service is performing a Master Merge, Catutil.exe may report insufficient disk space on the destination drive even though the drive contains adequate space.

If you shut down the Search service, Catutil.exe runs to completion and the Search service restarts correctly, but the source catalog files may not be deleted from the source drive as they should be.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in theMicrosoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
