MS15-110: Description of the security update for Office for Mac 2011: October 13, 2015

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. Issues that the update fixes
This update provides the latest improvements for Office for Mac 2011 that include the following:

  • Ribbon customization in documents is now preserved by Mac Office 2011.
  • Calendar events that have online meeting details can now be edited in Outlook for Mac and opened in Outlook for Windows.

Update information

Prerequisites

Before you install the Office for Mac 2011 14.5.7 update, make sure that you have Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 or a later version installed on your computer. Also, make sure that the computer is running Mac OS X 10.5.8 or a later version of the Mac OS X operating system.

To verify that the computer meets this prerequisite, click About This Mac on the Apple menu.

To verify that Office for Mac 2011 14.1.0 is installed on your computer, follow these steps:

  1. On the Go menu, click Applications.
  2. Open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder, and then start any Office application. (For example, start Microsoft Word).
  3. On the application menu, click About <application>.
  4. In the About <application> dialog box, note the version number that is displayed. The number should be 14.1.0 or a later version.

Restart requirement

This update does not require you to restart your computer.

Removing the update

This security update cannot be uninstalled.
