Cannot Send Third-Party Mail by Using Earthlink Dial-up Networking and Outlook Express

When you use an Earthlink dial-up networking connection to send mail through another Internet service provider (ISP) or e-mail account, you may receive the following error message:
Error 0x800ccc0e. Cannot connect to Server.
To resolve this behavior, replace the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server for the other ISP or e-mail account with the Earthlink SMTP server ( To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook Express.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts.
  3. Click the Mail tab.
  4. Select the other ISP or e-mail account.
  5. Click Properties.
  6. Click the Servers tab.
  7. Change the server information for Outgoing mail (SMTP) to

  9. Click Close in the Internet Accounts dialog box.
