FIX: The Log Reader Agent stops intermittently and an Access Violation occurs in SQL Server


Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included in the previous SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014 fix release.
Symptoms
When you use the Transactional Replication feature in Microsoft SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, or SQL Server 2016, the Log Reader Agent may stop intermittently and an access violation occurs. Additionally, you receive error messages that resemble the following:
  • The process could not execute 'sp_replcmds' on 'SQL_Server_Instance_Name'. (Source: source, Error number: error_number)

Resolution
This issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
