KMDF driver package installation times out in Windows 7 SP1
- On a computer that's running a freshly installed version of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), you try to install a KMDF driver package.
- The computer is connected to the Internet.
In this scenario, the driver installation process fails with the following error in the Setupapi.log file:
dvi: CoInstaller 1: Enter 10:10:17.183
dvi: CoInstaller 1: Exit
dvi: CoInstaller 2: Enter 10:10:17.199
inf: Opened PNF: 'C:\Windows\INF\oem3.inf' ([strings])
ump: Server install process exited with code 0x000005b4 10:15:17.187
If you wait until the initial Windows Update search and download completes, and then you run the KMDF driver installation again, the process should complete successfully.
You can configure the following Group Policy setting on the affected computer before you try to install the driver package for the first time:
Temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet until the driver installation process completes.
