Microsoft Social Engagement 2016 Update 1.3

Summary
Microsoft Social Engagement 2016 Update 1.3 is ready and will be released in March 2016. This article describes the features, fixes, and other changes that are included in this update.

New features introduced in Microsoft Social Engagement 2016 Update 1.3

Update 1.3 introduces the following features:

  • Understand an author's intent using intention analysis
To help increase team efficiency for sales and service organizations, Social Engagement automatically detects intentions in English social posts on Facebook and Twitter. Intention tags are applied to acquired posts and are analyzed by a machine-learning based algorithm to detect author’s intentions. Posts that are picked up by a search topic are scored against the algorithm and if applicable, marked with the intentions identified. In addition to the automated tagging, you can manually add tags or remove tags from posts.

To analyze the intentions in the user interface, we introduced the Intentions widget. It displays a distribution of the intention tags in your current data set. The metrics include the total number of posts with intention tags, the number of posts per intention tag, and the trend per intention tag. Analyzing the intentions over a data set gives you quick insights into what's on the top of your audience's mind. At a glance, you can find out if there are more purchase intents after you launched a marketing campaign and get an additional indicator of its success. Or, you can see if there are major issues bubbling up due to an increased volume of posts with support requests or complaints.
  • Route posts using automation rules
Automatically link posts matching your filter criteria to CRM entities such as cases and leads. Combine this with intention analysis and you can setup an automated triage process. For example, customer issues on social media can be automatically identified and routed to your service department as cases.
  • Sentiment analysis for the Arabic language
The updated sentiment algorithm provides you with the capability to perform sentiment analysis for posts in Arabic. Additionally, post content in Arabic, Hebrew, or Urdu now displays with a right-to-left alignment in the post list and in post details.
  • Share a link from a post found in Social Engagement
When you find a post in Social Engagement, be it on a stream in Social Center, or in the post list in Analytics, you can share this post to your peers with a few clicks. Simply click the Post Link button and add some text to your post. Choose the social profile to post to, and you’re done. Give it a try.
  • Improvements to Link-to-CRM user experience
We introduced improvements when requesting information from the CRM discovery service and updated the error messages when there's an issue with the connection to CRM. Authentication requests are now handled more smoothly when you link a post from Social Engagement to Microsoft Dynamics CRM (on-premises).

Issues that are resolved in Microsoft Social Engagement 2016 Update 1.3

In addition to the new features, Update 1.3 addresses the following issues:
  • Improved Link-to-CRM error message texts to provide clearer and more precise information when the following problems are encountered:
    - Problem with connecting to CRM when linking a social post to CRM using the Link to CRM action, due to any of these reasons: Authentication failure, Connection timeout, Insufficient permissions, Social Engagement data blocked by CRM, and CRM not enabled for OAuth 2.0.
    - Problem with creating an entity in CRM when linking a social post to CRM using the Link-to-CRM action due to internal errors in CRM.
    - Problem with looking up the CRM entity information in Microsoft Social Engagement after a social post was linked to CRM due to either of these reasons: CRM is not configured to create entities from a social activity or CRM is still in the process of creating the entity.
  • Improved handling of pop-up blockers when linking a social post to CRM using the Link-to-CRM action. We now automatically detect blocked pop-ups required for authenticating into CRM and provide a message with the option to sign-in to CRM.
  • Improved scrolling behavior on streams in Social Center. When clicking on “show fresh post”, streams automatically scroll to the newest post.
  • Improved usability of action fly-out in streams in Social Center. When selecting “View in Analytics” from a stream’s header menu, Analytics automatically will set the timeframe accordingly.
  • Improved user-experience of action fly-outs in Streams in Social Center: All actions like “curate sentiment” or “assign post” are now visually consistent.
  • Improvement on working with posts: From now on, when publishing from Microsoft Social Engagement, the numbers for the publish history will update immediately.
  • Fixed an issue that automatically triggering the search for available CRM Online instances when adding a new CRM connection. The search is now triggered only upon selecting a specific location.
  • Fixed an issue on posts linked to CRM, displaying the unique name of the entity instead of the display name of the referred item.
  • Fixed an issue in Settings > Allowed Domains when using wildcards for subdomains. Wildcards are now fully supported when adding domains such as *.dynamics.com
  • Fixed an issue where predefined search topic categories couldn’t be deleted in Search Setup. Administrators can now delete all categories that don’t contain any search topics.
  • Fixed an issue where wrong feedback is shown when a search rule exceeds the monthly quota limit by more than 5 times. Users are now correctly informed that this item can’t be saved.
  • Fixed an issue on qualitative feedback in Search Setup where results for individual terms instead of the entire phrase where displayed.
  • Fixed an issue where the number of posts in Search Setup summary didn’t show after changing the page in Search Setup.
  • Fixed an issue when Facebook data doesn’t include an author name. Authors of these posts will be shown as “someone”.
  • Fixed a rare issue where certain users couldn’t see streams in Social Center.
  • Fixed an issue in Settings and Activity Maps where check boxes didn’t align in Chrome browser.
