This error is caused by a corrupted fax job in the Queue folder.
To work around this problem, the fax queue folder has to be deleted and the Fax service has to be restarted. To have us do this for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you would rather do this yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me

To delete the fax queue folder and restart the Fax service automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Next, click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in this wizard.

Note This wizard may be in English only; however, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD, and then you can run it on the computer that has the problem.

Now go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.

Let me fix it myself

To delete the fax queue folder and restart the Fax service yourself, delete the Queue folder from the following location:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\MSFax\Queue
After you delete the Queue folder, restart the Fax service.

  • Deleting the Queue folder also deletes any unsent fax jobs.
  • Some folders in the path of the Queue folder are hidden. If you cannot view these folders, follow these steps:
    1. On the Tools menu in My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
    2. Click the View tab.
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
    4. Click OK.
