KB3178541 - PivotTable connects to incorrect data source in SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

• You have one or more BI semantic model (BISM) connections in an instance of PowerPivot for SharePoint.

• Those BISM connections connect to different PowerPivot workbooks that are published to the same SharePoint instance.

• You open another PowerPivot workbook from the PowerPivot Gallery on the same SharePoint instance.

• The workbook contains a PivotTable that uses one of those BISM connections as its data source.

When you update the data connections in the workbook in this scenario, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

For example, you may receive this error message when you click Refresh All.

Additionally, after you close the error message, the PivotTable area is blank. If you then select the PivotTable area, the PowerPivot Field list is enabled. However, the fields in the list may belong to an incorrect data source (it may be one of the other PowerPivot workbooks on the same SharePoint instance).
