Over time, an Exchange 2000 server that is part of a mixed Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 and Exchange 2000 environment may gradually become unresponsive. Clients may report an overall reduction in mail system performance. Exchange System Manager may not be able to connect the Information Store service and may display the database as offline.
This problem may occur if the Information Store service is leaking memory.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
The number of private bytes for Store.exe may increase over time. To track this, monitor the following counter in the Windows NT Performance Monitor:
