When you try to install Office XP from the CD on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based workstation, you may receive an error message similar to the following in the verbose log:
You then cannot complete the installation.
Error 1311. Source file not found(cabinet): D:\filename.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
NOTE: This behavior may occur when you try to install any Windows Installer-based program.
This behavior may occur if the Windows 2000 security policy is set to restrict CD access to the locally logged-on user only. The Windows Installer does not install the software as the locally logged-on user; if that policy is in effect, Windows Installer cannot access the CD.
To resolve this problem, copy the contents of the Office CD to a folder on your hard disk or to a network share, and then run Office Setup from this folder. To do this, follow these steps:
