PUB2002: Publisher Stops Responding When You Use the Default Novell Printer

If you open an existing publication or try to create a new publication in Microsoft Publisher 2002, you may receive the following error message:
Publisher has encountered an error and will be shutdown.

The following is the error signature that you receive after you click the link:
   App Name   App Version   Module Name  Module Version  Offset   --------------------------------------------------------------   Mspub.exe  10.0.3402.0   Mspub.exe    10.0.3402.0     0019650C				
This problem occurs because the default printer that you are currently using is a Novell Printer that has more than 72 characters in the name.

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC).
