When you view a document in print preview or when you print the document, the field codes appear where the field code results are expected. Word displays the field code results in print layout view.
This behavior occurs if you turned on the option to print field codes instead of field results.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Print.
  2. Click Options, click to clear the Field codes check box under Include with document.
  3. Click OK, and then click Close.
  4. On the File menu, click Print Preview to verify that Word displays the field code results.
Fields are used as placeholders for data that might change in a document and for creating form letters and labels in mail-merge documents. For more information about field codes, click Microsoft Word Help on the Help menu, type About Fields in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
