INTRODUCTION
If you try to play certain games on a Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer, you may experience any one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The game may stop responding (hang).
  • The game may quit unexpectedly (crash) when the introductory video clip starts.
  • You may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following error messages:
    Video not available - cannot find 'VIDS:IV50' decompressor
    Failed (hr=0x80004002) in pVW-> put_Owner((OAHWND)HWnd)
Cause
This behavior occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The game that you want to play contains video that is compressed with the Indeo video codec.
  • The Indeo codec is not installed on the computer.
The Indeo codec is not included in Windows XP Home Edition SP1.
Resolution
To resolve this problem, obtain and install the 327979 recommended update. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site: The English version of this update should have the following file attributes or later:
    Date         Time   Version          Size     File Name    ----------------------------------------------------------    14-Nov-2002  12:58  2.05.53          199,680  Iac25_32.ax    14-Nov-2002  12:58  4.51.16.03       848,384  Ir41_32.ax    14-Nov-2002  12:58  4.30.62.02       120,320  Ir41_qc.dll          14-Nov-2002  12:58  4.30.64.01       338,432  Ir41_qcx.dll         14-Nov-2002  12:58  R.5.10.15.2.55   755,200  Ir50_32.dll          14-Nov-2002  12:58  R.5.10.63.2.48   200,192  Ir50_qc.dll          14-Nov-2002  12:58  R.5.10.64.2.48   183,808  Ir50_qcx.dll         14-Nov-2002  12:58  R.5.10.15.2.51   154,624  Ivfsrc.ax
Note To work around this behavior temporarily, do not play the introductory video clip when you start the game. If the game contains an option that you can use to skip the introductory video clip, select this option.
