SYMPTOMS
When you try to open a workbook in Microsoft Excel 2002, the workbook may close immediately.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when all the following conditions are true:
  • Your workbook contains macros, and you enable the macros, or the macros enabled by default.
  • The workbook contains links to other data sources, and you update the links.
  • The workbook contains macros that run automatically (Auto macros).
  • The workbook contains one or more links that cannot be updated.
RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
