WD2002: Excel Chart Pastes as Object in Non-English Version

When you use the Paste command to put a Microsoft Excel chart into a Word document, the chart may enter Word as an Excel object. This symptom occurs in a non-English version of Word 2002.

Note In the English version of Word 2002, the Excel enters Word as a picture.

Hotfix Information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

After the hotfix is installed, the English version of this fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To temporarily work around this problem:
  1. In Excel, right-click the edge of your Excel chart, and then click Copy.
  2. On the Edit menu in Word, click Paste Special.
  3. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Picture (Enhanced Metafile), and then click OK.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
In Word 2002, the default format when you put a chart that you copied from Excel was changed from Microsoft Excel Chart Object to Picture (Enhanced Metafile) to reduce the file size of your Word document.
