When you start Windows Media Player, you may receive the following error message:
Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If the error message still appears and if you want to see the data that the error report contains, click the click here link at the bottom of the message box. You then see error signature information that may be similar to:
App name App version Module name Module version Offset ---------------------------------------------------------------- wmplayer.exe wmpui.dll 00048108
An incorrect version of the Wmpui.dll file is registered on your computer. This may occur when you install some third-party programs.
To resolve this issue, register the correct Wmpui.dll file again:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK:
    regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wmpui.dll
You receive a message that is similar to:
    DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\system32\wmpui.dll succeeded.
  3. Click OK, and then start Windows Media Player again.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
