Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Create a default MFC MDI Application.
  2. Open the menu resource IDR_MAINFRAME.
  3. Select a child menu item such as File | Save.
  4. In Properties, change the ID of File | Save from ID_FILE_SAVE to another value, such as ID_PREV_PANE.
  5. Save all, and then open the .rc file in Notepad. You should see the following:
    IDR_MAINFRAME MENU BEGIN POPUP "&File" BEGIN MENUITEM "&New\tCtrl+N", ID_FILE_NEW MENUITEM "&Open...\tCtrl+O", ID_FILE_OPEN MENUITEM "&Save\tCtrl+S", 57681 <----- numeric instead of string
