You cannot build an OLAP cube when scheduled in Microsoft Project Server 2002

After you review the status of a Scheduled Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube, you find that the cube was not successfully created. Changes to the OLAP cube may be saved yet a window appears advising that the OLAP cube could not be saved. Additionally, the following Event may be logged in the Application log of the Windows Event Viewer:

This problem may occur after you apply the server-side hotfix for Knowledge Base article Q306290.

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Microsoft Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the "Time Zone" tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To work around the symptoms that are described at the top of this article, manually create the OLAP cube. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Project Web Access (PWA).
  2. Click Update Resource Tables and OLAP Cube.
  3. To create the OLAP cube for reporting, click Update Now.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1.
