A Microsoft Project plan with a password is damaged when you save the file to a new name in Microsoft Project 2002

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
When you try to open a file that was previously protected with a password and then saved to a new location, you may receive the following error message:
The operation could not be completed because the source file contains invalid project data or the total number of rows exceeds the limit of 1,048,000 rows in a project.
This symptom may occur if the following conditions exist:
  1. You save a file that is password protected.
  2. You save the file again by using a different name, but do not password protect the file.
  3. You save a password-protected document again after you remove or clear the old password.
