SYMPTOMS
When you start Configuration Manager on a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server-based computer or on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, you may receive either of the following error messages on a blue screen:
STOP 0x00000051 (0x0000000c, 0xc0000005, 0x????????, 0x????????)
STOP 0x0000001E,{0xc0000005, 0x8046c40e, 0x00000000, 0x????????}
Note Each "?" character represents a variable value.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when Configuration Manager does not correctly verify hive data. When this problem occurs, an incorrect list value may be returned if the list count is zero (0).
RESOLUTION

Windows 2000

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
