Your changes are not saved to the current document of Visio 2000

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
For a Microsoft Visio 2002 version of this article, see 813959.
After you make changes to a Visio document that you previously saved in an ODMA Document Management System (DMS), your changes may not be saved after you try to save the changes back to the current document.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • Visio is being managed by a Document Management System (DMS) that uses Open Document Management APIs (ODMA).
  • You clicked Save As on the File menu.
  • In the DMS Save As dialog box, you chose to save the changes to the current document instead of a new one.
  • You closed the document without saving any more changes.
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

The global version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
   Date Time Version Size File name -------------------------------------------------------------- 05-Aug-2003 17:15 6.0.2800.1168 2,040,832 Visio2000-kb815422-enu.exe
After the hotfix is installed, the global version of this fix will have the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table:
   Date Time Version Size File name -------------------------------------------------------------- 01-Apr-2003 07:47 5,070,848 Vislib32.dll

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
When Visio is managed by a DMS, the Save As operation causes Visio to call the ODMSaveAs API. The ODMSaveAs API prompts the DMS to return instructions to Visio for saving the document. These instructions are communicated to Visio through the ODMSaveAs arguments. If the DMS sets the NewDocID argument to an empty string, Visio should save the document to its current file location. Visio follows up as expected by calling the ODMSaveDoc API; the ODMSaveDoc API informs the DMS that the document was saved. However, Visio does not actually save the document.
