OL2002: Rules Appear As Turned Off in the Rules Wizard

This article has been archived. It is offered "as is" and will no longer be updated.
If you create a new rule to move an e-mail message to a folder that is contained in your personal folders (.pst) file, the following two conditions occur when you view the Rules Wizard after you quit and restart Outlook 2002:
  • The rule appears as turned off.

  • The .pst folder does not appear in the Rules Wizard when you click the "specified folder" link.
Note The rule is not actually turned off even though it appears this way in the Rules Wizard.
This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • You installed the update that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
    812262 OL2002: Overview of the Outlook 2002 Update: January 22, 2003
  • You collapse the .pst folder tree after you created the new rule.
