There could be various problem scenarios that cause this error. This article deals with one problem scenario that is explained in the "More Information" section. Click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
Right-click the printer, and then click Properties.
Click the Device Settings tab.
Change the Convert Gray Graphics to PostScript Gray setting to No.
If this procedure doesn’t fix the problem, change the Convert Gray Graphics to PostScript Gray setting back to Yes. Then, go to http://support.microsoft.com for further support options.
This problem typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
You print the publication as composite cyan-magenta-yellow-black (CMYK).
You run a PostScript file through Adobe Acrobat Distiller, or you try to print directly to a color PostScript printer.
The publication contains BorderArt frames or imported Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMF) graphics that have transparent borders.
The printer driver is configured to convert grayscale graphics to PostScript gray.
