Windows 2000-based computer that is running Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer restarts unexpectedly

When you try to use Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) to scan a domain from a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer, your computer may unexpectedly restart.
This problem may occur if an access violation causes Services.exe to stop unexpectedly (crash).

An access violation may occur if the NetSetuppOpenLog() routine is holding a critical section and if the NetSetuppCloseLog() routine deletes the same critical section at the same time.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
