If you forgot your four-digit parental control password and you follow the steps that are listed in Help to reset it, the password does not reset.
The Help topic incorrectly lists the steps to reset the parental control password.
To reset the four-digit parental control password, follow these steps:
Log on as an administrator.
Press the MCE button on the Media Center remote, use the pointer keys on the remote to select Settings, and then press OK on the remote.
Use the pointer keys on the remote to select General, and then press OK on the remote.
Use your mouse to point to the Parental Control button, but do not click the button.
When you do this, the Parental Control button should be highlighted in green.
Press and hold the CTRL+ALT+ENTER keys on your keyboard.
The four-digit code resets, and you are prompted for a new four-digit code.
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to set a new four-digit code.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
