When you use Microsoft Visual Basic for Windows 6.0 on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, if you view the properties windows of a Visual Basic form, click Font, and then click the ellipsis button (...) to try to change the font properties, the font window only partially appears, and the Visual Basic IDE stops responding. When this problem occurs, the VB6.exe process uses 100 percent of the CPU.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To work around this issue, turn off the advanced text services feature. To do so, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.
Click Regional and Language Options.
Click the Languages tab, and then click Details.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under System Configuration, click to select the Turn off advanced text services check box.
Note Microsoft does not recommend this workaround if you frequently switch the language settings of your keyboard between multiple languages.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
