"Stop" error when you install a slipstreamed copy of Windows 2000 SP4 over a USB CD-ROM drive

Symptoms
When you install a slipstreamed copy of Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) over a universal serial bus (USB) CD-ROM drive, you may experience a "stop" error after you click Finish.
Cause
This problem occurs because of a race condition in the USB during the device-removal process.

Note This is a software problem in Windows 2000 SP4, and its occurrence does not indicate a problem with your system hardware.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.
