If you configured Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to crawl and to index the public folder store of a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, and you search for content in the public folder store, you may find that items that contain Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents as attachments are not returned in the search results.
For example, when you search for content, links to .eml files that contain Microsoft Word documents as attachments are listed in the search results, but links to .eml files that contain PDF documents are missing from the search results.
This problem occurs because the Microsoft Search MIME filter incorrectly indexes PDF documents if the PDF documents are attachments to e-mail messages that are contained in the Exchange public folder store.
This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest SharePoint Portal Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.
Service pack informationThis problem is corrected in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
