If you configured Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to crawl and to index the public folder store of a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, and you search for content in the public folder store, you may find that items that contain Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents as attachments are not returned in the search results.
For example, when you search for content, links to .eml files that contain Microsoft Word documents as attachments are listed in the search results, but links to .eml files that contain PDF documents are missing from the search results.
This problem occurs because the Microsoft Search MIME filter incorrectly indexes PDF documents if the PDF documents are attachments to e-mail messages that are contained in the Exchange public folder store.
This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you installed the latest SharePoint Portal Server 2003 service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

This problem is corrected in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. This update requires SharePoint Portal Server 2003.
You may have to restart your computer after you apply this update.
The global version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
