When multiple project files are opened in Microsoft Project versions 3.0 and later, they are listed on the Window menu in alphabetical order. Thisbehavior is different from Project versions 1.x. Project 1.0 and 1.10 listthe files in the order that they were opened.

If you visually merge files using the New Window command on the Window menu, the files can only be merged in the order in which they appear on the list. The tasks could be reordered after the visual merge by sorting on the Project field. Another option is to rename the files before they are visually merged.
