You install the MS04-011 security update on a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer. After you restart the computer, you may experience a delay before you can successfully log on to the computer. You may also experience a delay while the desktop is opening. When the desktop successfully opens, the following message is logged multiple times in the system event log:
Event Source: PlugPlayManager Event ID: 256 Description: Timed out sending notification of device interface change to window of program, service name, or GUID.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To install this hotfix, you must have the MS04-011 security update installed on your computer.
You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix.
