This article describes how record notes are stored in the following products:
Microsoft Dynamics GP
Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains
Microsoft Small Business Financials
The next note ID value that these programs use for a new record note is stored in the Note Index field in the Company Master table.
Note This table is also known as the SY_Company_MSTR table and as the SY01500 table.
The Company Master table is in the Dynamics database. The Company Master table has one record per company.
When these products assign new note indexes, Microsoft Dynamics GP automatically retrieves the current value from the Company Master table for a new note. The value in the field is then incremented in the Company Master table. The value that was retrieved from the Company Master table is written to the Note Index field in one of the following tables, as appropriate:
If a note is actually entered for the master record or for the transaction record, the note will also be written to the Record Notes Master table in the Company database.
Note The Record Notes Master table is also known as the SY_Record_Notes_MSTR table and as the SY03900 table. The record in the Record Notes Master table will also contain any text that you entered in the note window.
Note A good description of how the note window and the record notes files work is available in the "Notes" chapter in the Dexterity Integration Guide Manual (Ig.pdf). The Dexterity Integration Guide Manual is located in the Tools/Dex/Doc/PDF folder on installation CD 2 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0 and for Microsoft Business Solutions - Great Plains 8.0. The "Notes" chapter describes the different types of Microsoft Dynamics GP notes. The "Notes" chapter also lists the global stored procedures and the sample Dexterity code that you can use to create, retrieve, modify, or delete records from record notes and from window notes.
